We are very excited to introduce you to Miranda, owner of the neighbouring shop Ardith, for the second edition of our Q&A, Friends of Cambie. We started this series with the intention of sharing with you all the inspiring community of small business owners that we are so proud be surround by. Miranda came into our store in 2015, searching for a rug for the fitting rooms to her newly opened store, a holistic athletic lifestyle boutique. Miranda's warm presence was a delight, she walked out of our store with a bright rug in hand and Cambie blanket draped over her shoulders. Similarly, Miranda's shop does not disappoint, it is easy to lose yourself in this dream space.
What is your name?
What is your shop/business and where can it be found?
Ardith is located at 373 Roncesvalles (Toronto, ON), near the Revue Theatre and loads of great shops!
At what point did you know you wanted to start this venture?
I have always been athletic and deeply interested in technical clothes and fashion, and I’ve always wanted to run my own shop, but it wasn't until after having children and moving from Vancouver to Toronto that I put the two ideas together and built up the confidence to jump into retail entrepreneurship.
What influences your business from day-to-day?
Seasons and weather, customer feedback, working closely with designers, like Sarra at Hoi Bo, and Reva Quam, the shop’s Creative Director.
How is your time spent while away from it?
When I'm not at the shop, I'm at home with my family, or lifting weights with Tanya at Sama Studio.
Where do you turn for inspiration?
For inspiration, I love travelling to NYC, Vancouver and LA, taking new fitness classes and connecting with people.
What do you love about your neighbourhood?
I love living and working in Roncesvalles. We’re close to the lake and High Park, so it’s perfect for running and long walks. The community is friendly and warm, and we’re blessed with excellent boutique shopping.
What is one detail of your space that you appreciate the most?
I’m lucky to have a beautiful, restored storefront with large display windows that provide a lot of natural light. In the afternoon, sun shines through the stained glass, and it casts tiny rainbows throughout the shop!
What is your favourite thing about your job?
Working with hardworking and talented artists and designers, and helping my customers find independent technical clothes they feel great wearing.
How would you describe the type of person that passes through these doors each day?
From serious athletes, yoga teachers and personal trainers to new mums that simply want comfortable, elegant clothing for every day, my customers all share one thing in common — they’re lovely human beings that appreciate special, thoughtful products.
Any advice for someone just starting out?
Follow your heart and work your tail off.
